Jean Tomezsko, PhD, RD, LDN

Jean Tomezsko is an experienced pediatric registered dietitian, licensed nutritionist, and researcher. She retired from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia in 2007, where she provided nutrition care for many children with developmental disabilities and special needs. She participated in a 3 year Center for Disease Control (CDC) study on the comprehensive care of people with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy that was recently published in Lancet Neurology. She will be the first nutritionist provider with the Bureau of Autism in Pennsylvania.

For the person with autism, Asperger’s and ADHD, a registered dietitian can provide the one aspect of care that is often missing - nutrition care. “The right nutritional interventions can have a huge impact on a child’s brain function, memory, learning, attention, focus, mood, behavior, growth, and overall health” (Strickland, E. Eating for Autism, Da Capo Press, 2009,ix). The preceding is also true for the adult.

Jean Tomezsko’s professional care will provide the following:

  1. Assessment of the person’s nutritional status and diet
  2. Suggestions of ways to change to a healthy diet, thus meeting all nutrient needs
  3. Recommendation of a nutrition Individual Education Plan to be used by parents and professional caregivers.
